Biography

Thomas Dodson was possibly born about 1757 in either Halifax or Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Thomas is the son of Thomas Dodson and Mary Neville.^[1]

Thomas married Jemima Robinson sometime before 1799. The exact date and location of their marriage is unknown. It is believed that Thomas and Jemima were possibly married in Hawkins county, Tennessee. No marriage record has been located.

Thomas left his Last Will and Testament in Hawkins County, Tennessee. Thomas' will is un-dated and reads in part as follows: "In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Dodson of the County of Hawkins & State of Tennessee Being weak & sick in body but of sound mind and Disposing memory . . . do make & ordain this my last will and Testament in form & manner following . . . I give & Dispose of in the following manner first I will that my loving wife Jamima Dodson possess & enjoy my whole Estate both Real & personal in this wise, she my said loving wife Jamima Dodson is to raise & Bring up my said children herein after named in the best manner that her ability will admit . . . my four children viz: James Dodson, Sarah Dodson, Elisha Dodson & Rolly Dodson . . . I appoint my loving wife Jamima Dodson my lawful Executrix & James Johnson & Samuel Riggs my Executors of this my last Will & testament . . . Thomas his X mark Dodson [wittness: James Dodson, Richard Hillson, Richard Roberson]^[2]

Thomas' exact date of death is unknown but he died sometime before 1805, as his widow Jemima Dodson married William Moffet and their first child, a son, Thomas Jefferson Moffet was born about 1805.^[1]

Margaret Dodson (Dodson-3060) has previously been listed as a daughter of Thomas Dodson and his wife Jemima. Margaret would have been about 6 years of age at the time of Thomas' death. Margaret is not named as a child of Thomas Dodson in his will.

Daniel J. Dotson (Dotson-32) has previously been listed as a son of Thomas Dodson and his wife Jemima. However, Daniel J. Dotson is not a known son of Thomas and Jemima Dodson. Thomas' children are named in his will as follows:
