Biography

They were in Caldwell County, Texas in 1896. They were in Altus, Okla from about 1890 to 1914. They were in Dallas, TX from 1914 to 1918 when they moved to Fletcher, OK where they remained until 1919. My mother (Clarice Knight) says they lived in Fletcher, Lawton and Ardmore, and that Grandpa owned a dairy north of Lawton. Jesse died at the Central Oklahoma State Hospital in Norman, OK on March 20, 1922. He is buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Ardmore, Carter Co., OK near where his daughter Alma O'Brien was living. Jesse P. Dodson established a temperance organization in the Paint Rock area.

Farmer, Dairyman and Building contractor

After their marriage, 23 Nov 1878, the first time Jesse and wife are found is in the 1880 Milam County census, pg 169, ED 101. Their first child Alma, is shown to be 9 months old. Mrs. Hays, their granddaughter, says in her writings that by 1887 they were in Belton, Texas; 1896 they were in Caldwell County, Texas; from 1896 to 1914 they lived in Altus, Oklahoma; the years of 1914 to about 1918 found them in Dallas, Texas when they moved to Norman, Oklahoma where they remained until 1919. Jesse died at Central Oklahoma State Hospital in Norman, Oklahoma on 20 March 1922.

While Jesse was working as a building contractor (date unknown to me), one of his men dropped a hatchet on his head, and he wore a metal plate on his head for the rest of his life which was eventually the cause of his death.
