Raleigh married Nancy Cooper sometime before 1837, based on the year of birth of their oldest child. No marriage record has been located. Nancy's surname of Cooper is found on the Missouri death certificate of her daughter Mary J. Dodson Harrison.[1]
Raleigh was living in Yalobusha County, Mississippi by 1845, when he appears in the 1845 Mississippi State Census. The census only list the number of males and number of females in the household and Raleigh is listed with 2 males and 3 females in his household.[2]

Raleigh received a land patent on the 10th of May, 1853 for 40.81 acres of land in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. The legal description of the land is given as: S 1/2 W 1/2 SW 14 of Section 23, Township 24N Range 5E.[4]
Raleigh received a second land patent on the 15th of October, 1855 for 40.82 acres of land in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. The legal description of the land is given as: SE 1/4 SW 1/4 Section 23 Township 24N Range 5E.[5]

Raleigh died sometime after the 10th of July, 1874 and before the 15th of August, 1874 in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. The location of Raleigh's grave is not known.
Raleigh's widow and son made the following statement regarding Raleigh's last will and testament in a deed selling property after Raleigh's death: ". . . "This Indenture executed this the 23rd day of June 1876 between Nancy B. Dodson and James T. Dodson Executors of the last will and testament of Rawley Dodson, deceased, parties of the first part, and John B. Covington, Eliza E. Covington, . . . and such others as may hereafter from time to time become members of the Missionary Baptist church at Coffeeville Mississippi, parties of the Second part, Witnesseth: that whereas on the 10th day of July 1874 the said Rawley Dodson executed his last will and testament nominating and appointing the parties of the first part executors thereof and providing therein among other things that said executors might, at any time after his death, sell any part, or all of the estate devised and bequeathed, should they deem it advisable and advantageous to do so; and whereas the said Rawley Dodson having departed this life, his said last will and testament was, by a decree of the Chancery Court of the first Chancery Court District of Yalobusha County rendered by the clerk thereof in vacation, on the 15th day of August 1874 duly admitted to probate, and letters testamentary thereon granted to the parties of the first part; [8]
Raleigh Dodson is incorrectly shown in a number of on-line genealogies as having Find A Grave site Memorial #65825183; and having died the 22nd of July, 1871, and being buried in Grenada County, Mississippi.
