Biography

Tabitha Dodson was born about 1763 in Pittsylvania County, Viriginia. Tabitha was the daughter of Lazarus Dodson and Alice Dodson.

Tabitha married Micajah Dodson on the 3rd of April, 1787 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.^[1]

Tabitha is named in the last Will & Testament of her husband Micajah Dodson. Micajah Dodson's will appears as follows: "In the name of God Amen. I Micajah Dodson of Pittsylvania county & State of Virginia being in sound mind and disposing memory do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner and form following (Viz) 1st I will that all my just debts shall be paid out of my estate. 2nd I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Dodson one bed bedstead and furniture one cow and calf one black walnut chest her mothers side saddle one cotton wheel and cards; three red painted chairs. 3rd All the rest and residue of my estate goods and chattels real & personal I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved wife Tabetha Dodson during her natural life and for her use as her wants may require and after her death 1st I will and bequeath to my daughter Martha Camell [Campbell] formerly Martha Dodson one dollar as I think I have given her in advance her share. 2nd I give an bequeath to my Grandaughter Nancy High one cow and calf. 3rd I will that all the rest of my personal estate be divided equally between my sons William Dodson, Elisha Dodson, Peter Dodson and my daughter Betsey Merricks, Sally Dodson and the heirs of the body of Peggy Merricks. 4th And last I will that all my lands be equally divided between my three sons William, Elisha, and Peter Dodson whom I nominate constitute and appoint sole Executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others forms wills by me at any time made. In witness whereof I have hereon set my hand and seal the 10th day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven [signed] Micajah his X mark Dodson Signed sealed published and declared by the said testator Micajah Dodson as and for his last will and testament in presence of us who have subscribed our names as witnesses in presence of the said testator Thomas W. Wallon, Jas Blair, Daniel Berger At a Court held for the County of Pittsylvania the 20th day of July 1840 this last will and testament of Micajah Dodson dec'd was proved by the oath of Thoomas W. Wallon a subscribing witness to be the act & deed of said Micajah Dodson and Drury Blair having made oath that the name of James Blair another subscribing witness is in the hand writing of the said James Blair it is ordered that the said will be recorded."^[2]
