Biography

Mary Dodson was born about 1779 in Virginia. Mary is the daughter of David Dodson.

Mary married Thomas Cave on or after the 17th of October, 1798, in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Thomas Cave obtained a marriage bond on the 17th of October, 1798, and attached with the marriage bond were the following documents:

"Sir Please to grant a license for Thomas Cave and Mary Dodson by the consent of her father [signed] David Dodson To Mr. Williams Clk of the court October the 10 1798 Test Thomas Purdom"
Shenendoah County This day came Thomas Purdom before me Geo Ferovel Justice of the Peace for the said county and made oath that Mary Dodson is upwards of Twenty one years of age to his knowledge given under my hand this 17 day of Oct. 1798 [signed] Geo. Ferovel"
Shenandoah County This day came John David before me Geo Ferovel Justice of the Peace for the said county and made oath that Thomas Cave is upwards of twenty one years of age to his knowledge given under my hand this 17 day of Oct. 1798. [signed] Geo. Ferovel"[1]

Mary's exact date of death is unknown, but she died sometime before December 1804, as her husband Thomas Cave married his second wife Catherine Valentine on the 14th of December, 1804, in Shenandoah county, Virginia.[2]

Commonwealth vs. Evans for begetting a bastard child of Mary Dodson is dismissed, said Mary not appearing.
