Biography

Isaac Dodson was born between 1760 and 1770 in Virginia. Isaac was the son of Joshua Dodson Sr. and Ruth (surname unknown).

Isaac is believed to have been an early settler in Alabama. Isaac appears in the 1830 Federal census in Tuscaloosa county, Alabama. Isaac's household appears as follows: 1 male age 60 to 69 years and 1 female age 60 to 69 years.[1]

Isaac appears in the 1840 Federal census in Bibb county, Alabama. Isaac's household appears as follows: 1 male age 15 thru 19; 1 male age 70 thru 79; and 1 female age 40 thru 49.[2]

Isaac died sometime after the 1840 Federal census and before the 1850 Federal census. It is believed that he died in Bibb county, Alabama.

Capt. Isaac Dodson was born abt. 1760, son of Rev. Joshua and Ruth Dodson. He came to Alabama from Georgia by 1820. He was a Captain of the Bibb County, Georgia militia when the area was frontier and
was active at the Rehoboth Baptist Church near Lawley. He later moved West to Haysop Creek where he became a founding member of Haysop Church. He was either father or uncle to Elisha S. Dodson of L
iberty Church, according to Rev. A.B. Creel who was an authority on these families. Children included Ruth (1793-1873) who married Joshua Creel; Nancy, born abt. 1785, who first married John Hagler i
n 1804 in Clarke County Georgia, then William Griffin in 1831 in Bibb County, Georgia.
