Mary, daughter of John Doe & Elizabeth Jolly, was born on 7 September 1796 and baptised on 11 September 1796 in Bridgham, Norfolk, England.[1]
When Mary married Edward, one of the witnesses was Susan Doe[2], and three years later William Doe was married at Illington.[3] William and Susan were both baptised at Illington with parents John and Mary (née Livack) Doe. Harriet, another child of John and Mary, died in 1808.[4]
John Doe, a widower, married Mary Lovack at Bridgham in 1801.[5] Elizabeth, wife of John Doe, died at Bridgham in 1798 aged 39.[6]
Mary Ann, daughter of John and Elizabeth (late Jolly) Doe was born on 7 September 1796 and baptised at Bridgham four days later.[7] John had married Elizabeth at Larling in 1781; at the time John was living in Old Buckenham.[8]
At the 1841 census Mary and three of her children - Charlotte, George and Frances, were living in Thompson with John and Elizabeth Houchin, presumably George's parents. Mary was 55, John 75, and Elizabeth 70[9]
Mary may have died in 1875 at the age of 83, implying a birth year about 1792,[10] but no trace of her has been found in the years between 1841 and 1875. Of the three children with her in 1841:
Charlotte was working as a servant in Great Cressingham in 1851.[11]
George was lodging with another Houchen family in Thompson in 1851.[12] Perhaps his uncle, but this aspect has not been explored.
Frances was also working as a servant in 1851, but in Thompson.[13]
Mary Ann was born in Bridgham on 7 Sep 1796 and christened on 11 Sep. She is the daughter of John Doe and Elizabeth Jolly.
