Grace May Dogan was born 27 Apr 1906 in Virginia, USA. She was the daughter of Silas Sylvester Dogan and Amanda Virginia "Jennie" Stanley.

On 31 Jul 1908, her brother Selma Jackson Dogan was born in Botetourt County, Virginia.

1910s

On 3 May 1910, Gracie M Dogan (4) lived in Amsterdam, Botetourt County with her father Silas A (30), mother Amanda Z (22), and younger brother Selma J (1). Silas and Amanda had been married five years; Amanda was the mother of two children both living. They were white and born in Virginia. Silas worked as a laborer on a general farm. [1]

1940s

In 1940, Grace D Green (33) lived in Big Lick magisterial district, Roanoke County with her husband Allen A (35), daughters Ann (8), Mary A (7), Araminta (5), son Allen (4), and daughter Grace (3). [12] Her brother Selma J Dogan (30) lived in Big Lick, Roanoke County. Her father Silas S Dogan (58), mother Virginia M (52) and siblings Mary H (25), Garland P (20), John L (19), Harold L (16), Virginia K (14), Robert H (11), and Margaret A (6) lived in Amsterdam, Botetourt County.

On 20 Feb 1942, her daughter Mary Alice Green (9) died at Shenandoah hospital in Roanoke from acute nephritis. She had been in the hospital four days and had lived in the community her entire life. She lived at Route 1 Box 61 in Roanoke County, was white, single, a school student. She had been born 13 Feb 1933 in Roanoke County, and the daughter of Allen A and Grace Dogan Green. Mr A A Green was the informant of her death. Lob-Wrigley Funeral Home provided services and she was buried at Sherwood cemetery in Roanoke on February 22nd. [7]

On 7 Sep 1943, his brother Selma J Dogan enlisted in the US Army for the duration of World War II plus six months. He was white, had a grammar school education, worked as a carpenter. His military rank was Private. [13]

On 12 Feb/Dec 1944, his brother Selma Dogan (35) died while serving in the US Army. He was buried at Sherwood Burial Park in Salem, Roanoke County. [14]

On 25 Sep 1945, her brother-in-law John William Lawrence died in Virginia.

On 17 Jul 1946, her brother Ethan Eugene Dogan (33) married Lizzie Lee Halsey (20) in Roanoke. Ethan was white, single, worked as a carpenter, born in Hollins, Virginia, lived in Hollins, and the son of Silas S and Virginia M Stanley Dogan. Lizzie was white, single, born in Alleghany County, Virginia, lived in Hollins, and the daughter of William R and Vinnie R McMeans Halsey. On 31 Aug 1946, her sister Virginia Kern Dogan (20) married James Lewis Butler Jr (23) in Roanoke. James was white, single, worked as a car repairer for Norfolk & Western Railway, born in Roanoke City, son of James L and Clare Bradford Butler, and resided in Hollins. Virginia was white, single, born in Botetourt County, daughter of S S and Amanda Stanley Dogan, and resided in Hollins. They were married by D A Thomas, minister of the Baptist church. [15]

In Jun 1947, her brother Garland married Frances Louise Brickey. Frances was the daughter of Della and Frank Brickey.

On 28 Feb 1948, her brother Robert Hammit Dogan (21) married Frankie Marie Wright (19) in Roanoke. Robert was white, single, worked as a car repairer's helper for Norfolk and Western Railway, born in Roanoke County, son of Silas S and A Virginia Stanley Dogan, and lived at RFD #1 Box 34 in Hollins, Virginia. Frankie was white, single, born in Roanoke County, daughter of Frank E and Mary Floyd Wright, lived at RFD #1 Box 182 in Roanoke. They were married by J E Patterson, minister of the Brethern church. 1950s

On 24 Apr 1950, Grace D Green (44) lived at 2112 East Gate Ave in Roanoke City with her husband Allen A (45), daughter Jane (15), son Allen A Jr (14), and daughter Grace T (13). They were white and born in Virginia. Allen was unemployed and looking for work. [17]

On 30 Dec 1955, her daughter Grace Tillie Green (<21) married Nolan Hale Cassell (<21) in Vinton, Roanoke County. Nolan was white, single, worked as a carpenter, lived in Roanoke, and the son of George W and Myrtle J Jackson Cassell. Grace was white single, born in Roanoke County, lived in Roanoke, and the daughter of Allen A and Grace M Dogan Green. They were married by D A Thorcus, minister of the Baptist church. [11]

On 6 Feb 1957, her sister Hazel Mary Dogan (41) married Clyde Watkins Doss (46) in Pasquotank, Pasquotank County, North Carolina. Clyde was divorced, white, from Norfolk, Virginia, born 10 Sep 1910 in Williamson, West Virginia, and the son of James O and Mary Stacy Doss. Hazel was widowed, white, from Norfolk, Virginia, and the daughter of Silans S and Amanda Stanley Dogan.

On 14 Jun 1958, her daughter Araminta Dee Green (23) married Wilbur Russell Guthrie (27) in Norfolk, Virginia. Wilbur was white, single, worked in the installation department of Western Electric, born in Windsteadville, North Carolina, lived in Portsmouth, Virginia, and the son of Blake M and Martha Foster Guthrie. Araminta was white, single, worked as a machine operator, born in Roanoke, lived in Roanoke, and the daughter of Allen A and Grace Dogan Green. They were married by Herbert Dumstray, minister of the United Church of Christ. [8]

On 26 Jun 1959, her son Allen Alphonso Green (23) married Joan Yvonne Shepherd (<21) in Roanoke. Allen was white, single, worked for the US Air Force, born in Roanoke County, lived at 150 1st PMS Travis Air Force Base in California, and the son of Allen A and Grace Dogan Green. Joan was white, single, born in Roanoke, lived in Roanoke, and the daughter of Ralston A and Pauline Terell Shepherd. They were married by James W Lippineott, minister of the Oakland Baptist church. 1960s

On 28 Apr 1960, her father Silas Dogan died in Botetourt County. He was buried in Riley Family Cemetery, Daleville.

On 16 May 1964, her son Allen Alphonso Green Jr (28) died at home 2112 East Gate Ave NE in Roanoke from acute coronary occlusion due to coronary aclerosis with prior attack. He was white, worked as a truck driver for Hemingway Lines, married to Joan Shepherd Green, born 31 Jan 1936 in Roanoke, and the son of Allen A and Grace Dogan Green. His wife Joan Shepherd Green was the informant of his death. Lotz Funeral Home Inc provided services and he was buried at Sherwood Cemetery in Salem. [10]

1970s

On 22 Feb 1971, Grace Dogan Green (64) died at Community Hospital in Roanoke, Roanoke County from probably pulmonary thombolus due to rheumatic heart disease. She was white, married to Allen A Green, lived at Route #2 in Troutville, Botetourt County, Virginia, worked as a housewife, born 27 Apr 1906 in Hollins, Virginia, and the daughter of Silas S and Amanda V Stanley Dogan. Lotz Funeral Home provided services and she was buried at Sherwood Cemetery in Salem. [18] [19]
