Biography

Bethiah was born in 1723. [1]

Robert Kingsman of Norwich married Bethiah Doggett at Boston by the Rev. Andrew Eliot on 27 Sep 1749 [2]

After the death of her husband in 1788 Bethiah moved from Connecticut to Shaftsbury, Vermont, probably living with her niece, Bethiah Huntington. She made her will there on the 5th March 1791 and it was proved in Bennington County on the 4th April next [3]. She made her nieces' husband Dr Samuel Huntington executor of her will, and her "well beloved kinswoman, Bethiah Huntington, daughter of Dr Samuel Huntington" her residuary legatee.

Her will contains only one other bequest:

That my Executor hereafter named pay out of my Estate eight pounds Lawful money to Prince the Black Boy that I have Brought up within one month after my Decease.

This bequest, together, with gifts made by her husband and the unusual provision made for Prince in the will of her brother-in-law, Jeremiah, makes it quite probable that Prince was the natural born son of Robert Kinsman.

There are no bequests to any children of Bethiah in her will, and no mention of any.

She passed away in 1791 and was buried in Shaftsbury. [4]
