James was born in 1897. He was the son of James Doherty and Magdalena Ketterer. [1]

In 1905 James Doherty (Railway Employee) and Magdalena Doherty (Home Duties) lived in Tongala, Victoria. [2]

On 13 February 1915 James Joseph Doherty, Railway employee from South Melbourne aged 18, Roman Catholic, enlisted with the Australian Army and served as a Private with the 5th Battalion, 6th Reinforcement, Regimental number 2291. Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A40 Ceramic on 25 June 1915. [3]

In 1919 James Joseph Doherty (Clerk), John Neville Doherty (Clerk) and Eliza Doherty (Home Duties) lived at 121 Maribyrnong Rd, Ascot Vale, Victoria. [4]

James Joseph Doherty married Margaret Annie Hogan in 1924 in Victoria. [5]

In 1931 James Joseph Doherty (Station Master) and Margaret Annie Doherty (Home duties) lived in Drouin, Gippsland, Victoria. [6]

He passed away in 1974, aged 77. [7]
