Biography

Thomas Doiron is one of twins.

Thomas was born in 1699. He is the son of Jean Doiron and Marie Anne Trahan. [1]By the census of 1693, [2] the family had settled at Les Mines [Minas], and had eight « acres » [sic] under cultivation, plus 8 head of cattle, 9 lambs [sic] and 5 hogs. Jean remained at the Minas Basin for over 10 years, as shown in the censuses of 1701, 1703, and 1707, [3][4][5] moving to Pisiquit sometime between 1707 and 1714.

Thomas had a twin sister Marguerite.

He married Anne Girouard probably about 1724 based on the birth of their first child in about 1725.[6]. Most of their 14 children were born in Pisiguit. In about 1750, the family moved to escape the English restrictions in Nova Scotia. They settled in Isle Saint Jean, where they were enumerated in the 1752 Census, living in the town of Riviere du Moulin-a-scie.[7]

Among the 342 passengers listed, 146 died at sea, and 29 died at the hospital after arrival at Saint-Malo on 1 November 1758. [9] Thomas and five of the children did not survive the horrendous conditions on board and died at sea.

November 1, 1758, Anne Giroire, widow, and children Charles, Jacques, Anne, Marie Rose & Alexandre disembarked at St. Malo from the ship Le Duc Guillaume. They lived in St. Suliac 1758-1761.

Research Notes

There are discrepancies concerning the date of hospitalisation of the family members who disembarked in Saint-Malo in 1758.

  • F. Roux's website (now disabled) gives the date 3/11/1758 for Charles, Jacob, Anne, Marie-Rose and Alexandre.
  • The Canadiana Heritage transcription gives the date 6/11/1758.

Original records need to be verified to determine the correct date.

Doiron-598 and Doiron-108 appear to represent the same person because: Doiron-598 removed from parents Charles Doiron (abt.1674-abt.1758) and Françoise Gaudet (abt.1673-abt.1758). Not listed as a child of this couple in Stephen White's Dictionnaire généalogique des familles acadiennes. Closest match is Doiron-108, same year of birth.

I am wondering how there is such a discrepancy in the children? The article states 10 children and all ae listed. But below that there are 13 children, one of whom is my wife's 4th G. Grandmother.

Hi, John, I can see how the lists could be confusing. The first list was only those who were in the 1752 census, some of the older ones probably had married or perhaps died and were not living with the family then. Plus there are actually 14 children, I found one who was born after that census. I cleaned up the list and put the census information into the source so it can be seen, but not confused. I'm glad you pointed this out. Which child is your wife's relative? Do you need any more information for her?
