DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Hugh by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Hugh:
Hugh is believed to have been born in Ireland although I am not aware of any document that confirms this or the date of his arrival in America. The earliest record I have found for him is an entry in the Greenbrier County, Virginia (now West Virginia) personal tax list for 1793. He appears consistently in Greenbrier and (after its split from Greenbrier) Monroe County personal tax lists from 1793 through to 1816.
