Biography

Irene (Doll) Spahr has German Roots.
Irene (Doll) Spahr was a Pennsylvanian.

Irene, only child of Walter J. Doll and Sarah Ann "Sallie" Zartman, was born 4 August 1910 in West Manchester Township, York County, Pennsylvania.[1][2] Nine-year-old Irene remained in West Manchester in 1920 in the home rented by her parents Walter J. (age 31, cigar maker) and Sarah Doll (31).[3]

By 1930, Walter J. (age 41, cigar maker) and Sarah (41) owned a home near Bair's Station in West Manchester Township, where they resided with their daughter Irene R Doll (19, silk weaver) and Irene's twice-widowed, paternal grandmother Ida M. Glatfelter (66).[4]

On 26 February 1938 in York County, she married Morgan Eugene Spahr,[5] son of William Jessie Spahr and Emma Spangler.[6] They had at least three children.[7]

Soon after their wedding Morgan E. (age 22, farm operator) and Irene R. Spahr (29) rented a residence in Jackson Township, York County, which, in 1940, they shared with their one-year-old daughter and a widowed, retired farmer named Jacob W. Burgard (75).[8] All three adults had completed eight years of schooling.[8]

Irene died 3 April 1987 in Hellam Township, York County[1] and was buried at Holtzschwamm Cemetery in Paradise Township, York County.[2]
