Biography

Preston was born in 1926 in Randolph County, Alabama. He was the son of George Dollar and Ara Kirby. He was living with his family in Wedowee, Randolph County in 1930. His father moved the family to Columbus in Muscogee County, Georgia during the 1930s. This was during the Great Depression and everyone had difficulty during this period of time. Preston and his family lived on Reese Road in Columbus in 1940. Later his family all lived in a stucco house on Armour Rd. in Columbus.

America went to war in 1941 after th attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii by the Japanese. Preston was only 14 and too young to enlist. His brothers all enlisted in the military. By 1944 the war was still going on and Preston enlisted in the United States Army.

Life after World War 2

After the war Preston returned home to Columbus. He was married to Betty Adams and they started a family.

Preston passed away in 1998.
