Biography

Elizabeth Doman was born on 8 November 1862 at Malcolm's Creek, South Australia. She was the daughter of James Doman and Harriett Mewett.[1]

On 18 February 1884, Elizabeth married John Skipworth at the residence of Charles Clark, at Mount Gambier South Australia. The marriage record states Elizabeth was 20 and John 22 years old.[2]

Elizabeth and John moved to Western Australia, where John initially farmed but later became a kangaroo hunter. It appears John and Elizabeth had no children. John died in 1912, and Elizabeth was the executrix of his will..[3]

The following notice, relating to the administration of the will of John Skipworth and confirming Elizabeth Skipworth as the executrix appeared in The Advertiser (Adelaide, SA : 1889 - 1931) on 21 November 1912:

IN THE SUPREME COURT TESTAMENTARY CAUSES JURISDICTION.

NOTICE is hereby given that after the expiration of eight days APPLICATION will be made in the Registry of the Supreme Court of South Australia in its Testamentary Causes Jurisdiction for the SEALING of the PROBATE OF THE WILL of JOHN SKIPWORTH formerly of Collie in the State of Western Australia Farmer but late of Derby in the said State Kangaroo Hunter Deceased granted by the Supreme Court of Western Australia at Perth in the said State of Western Australia on the seventh dav of November 1912.

WADEY & E. J. COX, National Mutual Building, King William Street, Adelaide, Solicitors for Elizabeth Skipworth, the Executrix named in the said Will[4]

Following John's death, Elizabeth returned to South Australia and, on 21 January 1928, married Walter Boardman, a widower, at St Andrews Manse, Mount Gambier. [5]

Walter Boardman died on 30 May 1942 in Mount Gambier, South Australia. He was 86 years old.[6]

Elizabeth died on 18 July 1957 at the home of her nephew, William Harry Vause, of Millicent Road, Mt Gambier. She was 94 years old.[7] [8]

Elizabeth had lived with her nephew William and his family for around five years prior to her death. She was called Aunty Lizzie by William's children but also called Skippie by others.[9]
