Graduated from New Kensington High School on May 27,1943 Joined US Navy on 9/11/1944 in Pittsburgh. Attended US Navy Training Center in Sampson, NY and then was assigned to USS MALABAR (AF37) which toured the Far East and Shanghai, China during the Pacific Theater of World War II. Ratings held were AS, S2/C, S1/C, Y3/C. He was awarded the Victory Medal, Pacific Theater Ribbon, and American Theater Ribbon while in service. He left active service on June 22, 1946 at the USN Personnel Separation Center in Bainbridge, Maryland with an honorable discharge signed by Lloyd H. Elliott, Lt. Commander, USNR[1]
Raymond A. Domanski, 71 of Kimball Avenue, Arnold, died Thursday (Dec. 4, 1997) in Allegheny University Medical Center, Harrison. Born Nov. 5, 1926, in Creighton, East Deer, he lived in the Valley all of his life. Mr. Domanski attended St. Joseph School, New Kensington, and also attended a machinist trade school. A veteran, he served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Malabar and served two years as a yeoman third class. He worked for 46 years in the maintenance department of PPG in Creighton. Mr. Domanski was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both in Lower Burrell. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Mae C. Fennell Domanski; five sons, Gordon Domanski of Upper Burrell, Gary and Gerald Domanski, both of Lower Burrell, Greg Domanski of New Kensington and Raymond "Skip" Domanski of Sicklerville, N.J.; a daughter, Ramona Krider-Domanski of New Kensington, 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a stepson, Walter Angelovich of Russellton, West Deer; a stepdaughter, Clara Lewis of Militas, Calif.; and a sister, Irene Trinajstich of Norwalk, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Helen Kost Domanski. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Ross G. Walker Funeral Home, 217 Freeport Road, New Kensington, where a funeral outside of Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. in Greenwood Memorial Par Mausoleum, Lower Burrell.[2]
