Biography

Philip Ernst Donat was born on 3 Aug 1896.^[1][2] The birth of Philip Ernst Donat was recorded in the Chorlton, Lancashire Registration District during the 3rd Quarter of 1896.^[3] He was baptized on 27 Sept 1896 at St. Paul, Withington, Lancashire, England.^[4] He was the son of Ernst Emil Donat and Rose Alice Green.^[2] Father Ernst was a civil engineer.^[1]

In 1901, Philip E Donat lived with his parents, Ernest E. and Rose A. Donat, and a brother on Palatine Road, Tatton View, Withington, Lancashire. Ernest worked as a civil engineer on his own account.^[5]

In 1911, Ernest Emil Donat, CE Commission Agent, Engineering, lived at 20 St. Pauls Road, Withington, Manchester, with his wife Rose Alice and 4 children, including Philip Ernest.^[6]

Ernest P. Donat married Marie Bardet on 19 Jul 1924 at Bordeaux, France. Her parents were Octave Henri Bardet and Cecile Aryan.^[2]

Philip Ernst Donat, who said he was born in Manchester, England, obtained an Immigration Visa to enter the United States on 29 Nov 1945, which was valid until 25 Oct 1947. He said he was a plant disease inspector. He had previously entered the united States on visits, but he intended to take up permanent residence in the United States. He was going to Wallingford, Connecticut, to join his brother, John E. Donat. He had landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in October 1912 aboard the SS Pomeranian. His last permanent residence was Kentville, Nova Scotia.^[7]
