Possibly his wife was Mabel Brotten, married around 1919. If so, he probably had three children with her: Dorothy (~1920), Robert Carl (23 May 1921) and Margaret Eloise (~1925), and was divorced by 1930.
(I'm fairly certain of this due to circumstantial evidence, mainly census records from 1920.)
