Biography

"Junia Doolittle, s. of Luther, b. Mar. 25, 1797; m. Sept. 1827 Relief Tisdale b. Mar. 25, 1812. She d. Oct. 22, 1857. He d. of paralysis July 26, 1876 at Burlington, Ia., where he res. 8 yrs. with dau. Charlotte. He was a farmer as were all his bros."[1]

  1. Lucinda (2418), b June 15, 1828; m. 24 Dec 1846 in Henry, Iowa[2] John Lewis (1820-1910); she died 8 Nov 1916 and is buried at Bute Cemetery in Sullivan County, Missouri. Ten children.[3]
  2. Jonathan (2419), b June 14, 1830; he died 29 Sep 1916 and is buried at Burge Cemetery, New London, Henry Co., Iowa. He m1 Elizabeth Jane Shaffner (1828-1872); he m2 Margaret Haas (1849-1921)[4] Children included:
    1. John L Doolittle, b abt 1852 (age 8 in 1860 census) in Iowa.[5] With them, age 18, in 1870.[6] By 1880, he'd moved to Denver, Colorado where he was enumerated with the family of Geo. Lechner. John worked as a miner.[7] He's not found in the 1900 census. By 1910 he is in Phoenix, Arizona, 57, single, and manager of a gold and copper mine.[8] In 1920, at 67, he was still single and still mining copper, boarding with a Davis family in Alkire, Maricopa Co., Arizona.[9] This is his last appearance in US census records. And in fact, his death is recorded on 7 January 1926 at which time he was living in Phoenix, Arizona; retired miner; birth place "Des Moines, Iowa." He died of cancer and old age, and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery on January 8, 1926.[10]

  4. Paris E. [male] (2421), b Jan 20, 1836; res. Alledo, Ill. Residing with parents and siblings in 1850 in New London, Henry Co., Iowa.[11] He married Mary Roudebush on 7 May 1857 in Henry Co., Iowa.[12] Can't find in 1860 census. Can't find him in the 1880 census. He is probably the Paris E. Doolittle who died in 1899 and is buried at McPherren Cemetery in Aledo, Mercer Co., Illinois.[13] Children from 1870 census (there have been more):

    2. Mary E., b abt 1867 Montana
    3. Margaret R., b abt 1869 Montana
  5. Seth (2422) b Mar 28, 1842; res. at Milan; unm.
  6. Charlotte (2423), b June 29, 1847
