Note: They are in the US census 1810 aged over 25 with s & 2 daus all very young. He and wife settled in Edgefield Courthouse S.C. where they soon owned a several hundred acre plantation on a branch of Horn's creek, tributary os Savannah river waters, 100 acres of which widow Polly sold 10 Nov 1817 to Benjamin Tuttle, as directed in her husband's will. Tuttle 7 years later bought 81 acres more from Polly located on Lick Fork of Horn's creek. In this sale Polly was joined by Mackenzie G & R. M. Williams (her brothers?) and John Bouchillon ( her son-in-law?). They also transfer to L.C. Cantelos 6 Jan 1824 on Lick Fork 75 acres. Samuel made his will dated 17 Mar 1816 in which he refers to being weak in body , but of a sound and disposing memory, thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift." Widow Polly and "my worthy friends Roger M. Williams (Polly's father) Presley Swillivan & Mackenzie G. Williams" Exrs. He directs them to "sell on credit of one and two years 100 acres of my land laid off to the best advantage adjoining a small tract held by Reuben Newson near the wolf pit to discharge my just debts. My will and desire is that after paying all of my just debts, lend to my beloved wife Polly Doolittle during her natural life, all mt estate both real and personal; and at her death my will and desire is that my exrs hereafter named, sell the whole of my property then remaining on a credit of 12 months, and the money thence arising to be equally divided between my five children namely: Roger Williams, Samuel, Sterling W., Betsy Doolittle, and Lucinda Doolittle, to them and thier assigns forever. Samuel d 18 May 1817, prob at his home near Edgefield Courthouse, S.C. aged about 35F. Report is in probate file in court at Edgefield in est of Samuel Doolittle of sale of a negro slave by Benjamin Doolittle to Presley Swillivan 7 Apr 1823 for $125. Polly (Williams) Doolittle 10 June 1843. Both she and her hus Samuel are buried at Edgefield Courthouse, S.C. (In response to a letter I wrote J. Milton Quarles, Judge of Probate, Edgefield, S.C. dated 10 Nov 1965, he says he believes the Doolittles were buried in the old Dry Creek Cemetery which is on the eastern part of Edgefield County as they owned land in that part of the county. LB). On page 222 of Vol. II, Samuel is listed as son of Benjamin #87, whereas he is the son of Samuel #158-A, who was the son of Joseph #158.*
