Biography

Heman was born in 1799. He was the son of Daniel Doolittle and Dinah Chatterton. He passed away in 1875. The Allings (Nee Allen) and the Doolittles were early settlers of New Haven, Connecticut and later founders of Wallingford, Connecticut. Abraham Doolittle married Julia Alling/Allen. She was his first wife.

Five generations later Heman Doolittle married Julia Allen of Wallingford, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Enos and Mabel Allen. The couple had eight children:

  • Amanda
  • Oswin
  • Julia Ann
  • Samuel Daniel
  • Caroline
  • Ellen Miriam
  • Sarah Jane

He was a carpenter & a joiner, a resident of Mt. Carmel, Hamden, Connecticut.. He got a sawmill from the great grand son of Waite Chatterton & it stayed in the Doolittle family for at least three generations.

Heman and Julia's was a true Christian home, and i's moral and elevating influence is exhibited in the lives and character of his numerous descendants wherever found. His sterling character & geniality brought him wide acquaintance & great respect.
