Biography

Hubert Frank Lenato Doran aka Hubert Frank Doran was born on 1 Dec 1885 in Wood Green, Middlesex, England to Tom Doran and Jane Ann (Gibbs) Doran. His birth was registered in Edmonton, Middlesex in the first quarter of 1886, with mother's maiden name Gibbs.[1]

In 1891 Herbert F L Doran (age 5) lived at Choumert Road in Camberwell, London with his father Tom (33, Photographer), mother Jane A (32), and two brothers: Tom V L (7) and Sam N L (3), as well as boarder Jacob H W Linz (30).[2]

In 1901 Hubert Doran (age 15, Clerk Commercial) lived at High Street in Beckenham, Kent with his aunt Margaret Doran (45, Dyer & Cleaner), father Tom (43, Photographer), mother Jane (42), brother Samuel (13), and cousin Edith Wright (8).[3]

In 1911 Hubert Doran (age 25, Assisting in Business) lived in Foots Cray, Kent with his father Tom (53, Dyer & Cleaner), mother Jane (52, Assisting in Business), brother Samuel (23, Seaman Ret), and visitor Jennie Britton (20, Domestic Servant).[4]

Hubert F Doran married Miriam R Sainsbury in 1914. The marriage was registered in Bromley, Kent in the third quarter of the year.[5]

Hubert emigrated to the United States in 1914: Hubert Doran (age 28, Minister), with his wife Miriam (26), sailed aboard the ship Franconia, which departed from Liverpool on 22 Aug 1914 and arrived at the Port of Boston on 30 Aug 1914 - their last permanent residence was Kent, England; their nearest relative at place of departure was Hubert's father Tom Doran of 164 Broadway Hr, Kent; their final destination was Boston; they were going to Bishop Hamilton in Boston.[6]

Hubert Frank Doran filled out a draft registration card on 12 Sep 1918 in Middlesex County, New Jersey - his home address was Cranbury, Middlesex County; he was 32 years old, born 1 Dec 1885; he was a non-declarent alien; his occupation was minister at M E Church in Cranbury; his nearest relative was his wife Miriam R Doran of Cranbury; he was tall with a medium build, blue eyes and brown hair.[7]

In 1920 Rev Hubert F Doran (age 34, Minister Meth) lived in Cranbury with his wife Miriam R (31) - they had both immigrated in 1914 and were aliens.[8]

Hubert Frank Doran declared his intention to become a Citizen of the United States on 13 Dec 1920 in Mercer County, New Jersey - he was 35 years old; his occupation was clergyman; he was white, with a medium complexion; he was 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighed 170 pounds; he had brown hair and blue-gray eyes; he was born in London, England on 1 Dec 1885; he resided at Church Street in Groveville, New Jersey; he emigrated from Liverpool on the vessel Franconia; his last foreign residence was Bexleheath, England; he was married to Miriam Rachel, born in Sidcup, England and residing at Groveville; he had arrived at the port of Boston, Mass on 30 Aug 1914.[9]

Hubert and his wife visited England in 1921, and while there adopted his wife's illegitimate niece:

Hubert and his family then returned to the US: Hubert Frank Doran (age 35, Clergyman), with his wife Miriam R (33) and adopted child Ruby (6), sailed aboard the ship Olympic, which departed from Southampton on 3 Aug 1921 and arrived at the Port of New York on 10 Aug 1921 - Hubert & his wife's last permanent residence was Groveville USA, while Ruby's was Kent, England; their nearest relative at place of departure was Hubert's father T Doran of 164 Broadway in Bexley Heath [though he was also travelling to the US on the same ship]; their final destination was Groveville; Hubert & his wife had previously been in the US for 7 years, up to 14 Jun 1921; they intended to stay permanently.[10]

Hubert Frank Doran petitioned for Naturalization as a US Citizen in 1925 in Solano County, California - he resided in Fairfield, Solano County; his occupation was minister; he was born 1 Dec 1885 in London, England; he sailed from Liverpool, England on 22 Aug 1914 and arrived in Boston, Massachusetts on 30 Aug 1914; he had declared his intention to become a citizen on 13 Dec 1920 in New Jersey; his wife's name was Miriam Rachel, born 17 Jan 1888 in Sidcup, England and now residing in Fairfield; he had one child, Ruby, born in Sidcup on 21 Oct 1914 and now residing in Fairfield.[11] He swore allegiance to the United States on 8 Sep 1925 and was admitted as a naturalized citizen.[12]

In 1930 Hubert F Doran (age 44, Minister Methodist Episcopal) lived at 258 Juana Avenue in San Leandro, Alameda County, California with his wife Miriam R (42), adopted niece Ruby E (15), and widowed mother Jennie A (71) - Hubert & his wife had arrived in the US in 1914 and Ruby & Jennie had arrived in 1921.[13]

Hubert visited England and then returned to the US in 1938: Hubert F Doran (age 52), with his wife Miriam (50) and daughter Ruby (23), sailed aboard the ship Laconia, which departed from Liverpool on 13 Aug 1938 and arrived at the Port of New York on 22 Aug 1938 - their address was 452 13th St in Richmond, California.[14]

In 1940 Hubert F Doran (age 52, Minister) lived at 20 Cayuga in Santa Cruz City, Santa Cruz County, California with his wife Miriam R (52) and mother Jane A (81).[15]

Hubert visited England and returned to the US in 1954: Hubert F Doran of 1771 Grace Ave in San Jose California, with his wife Miriam R, sailed aboard the ship Mauretania, which departed from Southampton on 28 Apr 1954 and arrived at the port of New York on 5 May 1954 - they had 10 pieces of luggage.[16]

Hubert F Doran, born 1 Dec 1885, passed away on 15 Jul 1970 in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California.[17][18] He is buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, Alameda County.[19]
