Charles Dore and Jane Hadland were married after banns in Finstock, Oxfordshire on 12th September 1855[1]. They were bachelor and spinster, both of full age and living in Finstock. Charles was a sawyer and the son of James Dore who was also a sawyer. Jane was the daughter of James Hadland who was a labourer. They each signed their own name on the register[2].

1881 census shows him living in High Street, Finstock, a widower aged 54, with a daughter, son and granddaughter (Jane aged 4 born Finstock).
1891 census aged 65, widower, sawyer, living in High Street, Finstock, with daughter Louisa and granddaughter Jane.
1901 census aged 75, widower, wood sawyer, living at High Street, Finstock with his granddaughter (Jane, 24, school teacher).
