Matthew Dorman was born about 1648 in Northampton, Virginia, son of John Derman and Sarah Hickman.
Matthew's mother, Sarah Hickman Dorman Bonwell, wrote her will on 27 Sep 1659. It was proved 2 Nov 1659 at Northampton Co, VA: "To my son Matthew Darmon 5 cows. and to go to John Robins [as an indentured servant or apprentice] until 18. To my four children John Darmon, Mary Darmon, Sarah Darmon and Matthew Darmon 4 steers. Witt: William Smith, Thomas Leatherbury. (Note: Beneath her signature appears "This I promise with the help of James Bonwell to see performed."
Robert Maddock, Clerk, officiated at Matthew's marriage to Phillippa Gilman on 19 August 1672 at Worcester, Somerset Co, MD. Their children were:

Matthew made a will on 31 August 1692 at Somerset Co, MD. In his will he gave to son Henry tracts "Elliott's Improvements" and "Turkey Ridge". To son John land. To son Matthew tract "Dorman's Purchase" and part of "Nelson's Choice". To daughter Sarah personalty. To wife Phillis Extr, dwelling plantation until youngest child is of age, the said plantation to be divided among wife and all my children equally.

He died September 16, 1692. His estate was appraised at £39.14.10 on 7 Mar 1692/93.3.
