• Son of John and Aurilla (Briggs) Dorman of Jerusalem, Yates Co. New York,
• Husband of Jane Hannah (Lynn) Dorman and father of James M, George W, Mary Alta, Neva D, Fredrick W, Louis A and Frank Dorman.
• Served in the Civil War Jan 1864-Jun 1865 - with the New York Heavy Artillery - Captured at the mine explosion at the "crater".
• Family moved from New York state to Michigan state between 1870 and 1874
