Gwendoline Rose Dorney was born in 1904 in Warrnambool and never married.
On the third of March 1930, she passed through Fremantle on her way back to Melbourne from Capetown, on the ship Ceramic.
In 1930 Gwen had a frock and millinery shop, and later became an antique dealer.
None of her nieces and nephews remember her with any fondness. When her sister Constance, died young, Constance’s daughter Ninon was brought up by Gwen who was apparently very nasty to her.
She was caring for her father when he died and all his possessions went to her. Gwen died at the age of only 49, on January 9, 1953, and willed her belongings to her boyfriend, John (Jack) Dent, who lived in Melbourne. In one stroke, much of the family’s heirlooms and history were lost.
Gwen is buried in an unmarked grave in the Warrnambool cemetery.
