Thomas Ray Dorrell
Narrative
" Ray T. "Blackie" Dorrell, 88, a former mill worker, died Aug. 12, 1998, of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in Klamath Falls.
He was born in Omaha, Nebraska, [ incorrect location] [born in Omaha Arkansas per family, birth and census records] to Thomas and Hettie (Booth) Dorrell. He quit school in the fourth grade to help his father farm. He later joined the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1935 to 1936. In 1936, he married Verdie Williams in Arkansas. Mr. Dorrell also worked as a mill worker at Kesterson's Logging and then at Weyerhaeuser Compnay.
He belonged to the Stewart Lennox Baptist Church and raised 36 foster children. Survivors include his brother Joe Dorrell and his family of Sacramento, Calif.; foster children, Fronz and Marlene Hille and family of Longview, Wash., Vern Mulkey and family of Depew, N.Y., Richard Mulkey and family of Klamath Falls, and Debbie Bousman and family of Klamath Falls; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verdie, in 1998, his sister Mary Paul, brothers; Frank, Vernie, Clyde and James Dorrell, and his parents "
