Harold D. Dorris, son of George Wesley Dorris and Mary Pearl (Hibbs) Dorris, was born 1 October 1923 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. [1] [2] [3]
In 1930, Harold, age 6, lived in Eagle Creek, Gallatin, Illinois with parents and older siblings, Myrtle and George. [2]
His father, George passed away in 1937. In 1940, Harold, age 17, lived in Harrisburg, Saline, Illinois with mother Pearl and siblings Laura Myrtle and George Edward. [3]
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 25 February 1943 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. He served in World War II and Korean Wars. Sergeant Dorris was a member of the 34th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action, age 26, while fighting the enemy in South Korea on 22 July 1950. He was interred 14 June 1951 in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, Chemung County, New York. [4]
Sergeant Dorris was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. [5]
