Aquilla Dorsey was born on 23 Mar 1729 in Anne Arundel, Maryland to parents Charles Dorsey and Ann ___.[1] He married first Mary ___ about 1751 in Maryland. Children: Charles 1760, Gilbert 1763. He married second Ann Nancy Griffith about 1780 in Maryland. Children: Aquilla 1789, Ann 1797. He died on 11 Jul 1811 in Tuscarawas, Ohio.
On 17 MAR 1737, when he was still a child, John Howard, Gent. of Anne Arundel County conveyed to Aquilla Dorsey a 177 acre tract of land for £20.20.00 that was previously contracted by his father, Charles Dorsey. The tract was located on the Snowden's Branch of the Patuxent River in Anne Arundel County and was named Brother's Love. [2] In two separate deeds dated 17 JUL 1751, Aquilla Dorsey, blacksmith and a carpenter of Baltimore County, divided his tract called Brother's Love. He sold 67 acres of the tract to Philemon Dorsey, Gent. of Anne Arundel County for £11.07.00. The other 110 acre tract was sold for £18.13.00 to Nicholas Greenberry Ridgely, a minor. Both of these deeds were witnessed by Nicholas Gassaway of Thomas and Henry Howard.[3] One wonders if any of these men are related to Aquilla's mother, Ann.
