Biography

James Edward Dotson was born in the High Shoals District of Rutherford County on 5/24/1920 to Benjamin Harrison Dotson and Mamie Dotson. I have little information other his birth certificate for his life until after his Dad died in 1932 he appeared in the 1940 census living in Buncombe County, NC. On 06 Mar 1943 he was discharged from the Army and listed living in Buncombe County. By 1967 he was living in Tennessee where he married Betty Faye Ritchie on 21 Dec 1967. It appears they may have divorced and then remarried in Tennessee on 7/18/1970 because of the two marriage certificates on two different dates. I know James had at least on son because they came to visit my Mother Lillie Dotson Halford in the 1980's . We have a photo of them and James' son who also had a son in the photo. I do not know either of their names. James died in August of 1987 according to the Social Security Death files but I located a public record dated 1998 - 1999 (after his death) that reported that James E Dotson lived in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1998-1999 with the following relatives: Benjamin Harrison Dotson and Ruth J Dotson. Ruth was evidently this James E Dotson's wife and Benjamin Harrison also on this report leaves me with the opinion his son was named James Edward Jr. and James Jr named his son after Uncle Benjamin Harrison Dotson his grandfather. More research may document that this opinion is correct.
