George Doty son of Ellis Doty was born at Canandaigua NY 6 Oct 1818.

His family moved to Detroit in 1826. Shortly afterwards he went to Buffalo where he learned the jeweler's trade. He returned to Detroit and formed a partnership with Edmund Kearsley on Jefferson Avenue which only lasted a short time. He worked from circa 1835 to 1880 as a jeweler and watchmaker in Detroit MI. He is recorded as a watchmaker in Buffalo NY c 1835, but he had returned to Detroit by 1837, when he fought in the Canadian Rebellion on the side of the patriots and was a participator in the battle on Fighting Island. He returned to Detroit and resumed his trade. He later took up mining, which is his given occupation in the 1880 census.
He appeared on the 1850 census taken at Detroit MI, listed as a watchmaker, age 30, residing with Rachael 28 yrs, Clara 8 yrs, Edward 8 yrs and others. [2]
In 1900 George Doty 85 yrs old, born Oct 1814 in NY state, Rachael, wife 69 yrs old born Nov 1830 in Massachusetts, mother of 7, 3 still living.[3]
George is buried in the Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan. He was a father of seven children, only three of which survived him. He is the son of Ellis Doty and Ruth Pierce per George's death certificate.[4]
