Biography

Mary Doty was born in Plymouth, Plymouth Colony, about 1653, the daughter of Edward and Faith (Clarke) Doty.[1]

She married Samuel Hatch shortly after her mother's estate was settled on 10 July 1677. She was called Mary Doten in the court order of that date.[2] Samuel Hatch then signed a receipt for John Rouse on 28 February 1679 for the amount due him by virtue of his wife's share of the estate.[3] John Rouse was the husband of Mary's sister Elizabeth, and was administrator on Faith's estate. Mary was the only remaining unmarried daughter, so it follows that Mary was the wife of Samuel Hatch, even though she was not named.[1]

Mary's brother Joseph Doty of Rochester on 7 June 1700 conveyed to John White the 40 acre sea-lot he purchased from "Samuel Hatch my brother."[4]

Samuel was born on 22 December 1653 in Scituate, Plymouth Colony, the son of Walter and Elizabeth (Holbrook) Hatch,[5] and died probably not long before his will was proved on 07 July 1735.[6]

On 12 July 1720, her sons Elisha and Ezekiel Hatch of Rochester, yeomen, sold to John White 2/3 of a lot and 29 acres in Rochester, formerly owned by their father Samuel Hatch and shared by them with the heirs of their brother Josiah Hatch, deceased.[7]

Mary died before 13 June 1728 as she was not named in her husband Samuel Hatch's will of that date.[8] No probate records are found for Mary in Plymouth County.[1]

Samuel's will was dated 13 June 1728 and proved 07 July 1735. He named his sons Samuel and Isaac Hatch; grandchildren Isaac and Josiah, sons of Isaac; daughters Hannah Tincom, Elizabeth Bonney and Desier Hatch; grandchildren Ebenezer and Sarah, the children of son Ebenezer Hatch, deceased; grandchildren Edmond, Jabez, Josiah, Desier, Zurviah and Mary, children of his son Josiah Hatch, deceased; sons Elisha and Ezekiel Hatch.[8]

She could not have married both Samuel and Eleazer. Samuel lived until 1735 and she continued to have children with him.

Agreed, her bio is being rewritten and sourced. She could not have had children by both men at the same time. Her Churchill husband and children will be removed shortly.
