Biography of Harriet DOTZAUER/DOTZOUR of 1877

Harriet Dotzour was born the daughter of Theodor Dotzauer and his wife Elizabeth.

Harriet Dotzour was one of several siblings

  1. Louisa "Louise" Dotzauer, born February 3, 1868, who married George Brunner and had a large family.
  2. Elizabeth Dotzauer, born about 1869, who was baptized in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eggertsville, Erie, New York on August 5, 1869. St. Paul's was founded in 1827.
  3. Theodore J. Dotzour, born 1873 who married Wilhelmina Henrietta "Minnie" Wengatz, had at least three children (Florence Dotzour, William John Dotzour and Alvin Dotzour) and passed away in 1917.
  4. Charlotte Dotzour, born about 1872 who married John Brunner and had at least two children (Edward and Antonette)
  5. Lillie Dotzour, born 1875, who married William Giertz
  6. Harriet Dotzour, born about 1877 who married Edward Lutz and had at least six children (Mary Lutz, John Edward Lutz, Rose Lutz, Clara Lutz, Ella Lutz, Edwin K. Lutz and Jean Lutz).

Harriet Dotzour married Edward Lutz, born 1875, before 1896, and had at least six children:

  1. Mary Lutz, who passed away in 1916, at the age of 20 years old.
  2. John Edward Lutz born 1898, who died October 23, 1918, at the age of 20 years old, serving his country in the US Army during World War I.
  3. Rose Lutz, born 1900, who was still alive and living with her parents in 1920.
  4. Clara Lutz, born 1902, who married Alphonse Veiders, had at least three children, and lived at 181 Peckham Street in Buffalo, New York in 1940.
  5. Ella Lutz, born 1906, who married Arthur Westphall, before 1938, had at least one child, and rented a home at 256 Davidson in Buffalo, New York in 1940, with her husband, their child, and his brother. Her husband Arthur worked with gold and silver plating.
  6. Edwin Lutz, born May 20, 1908, who was in the New York State National Guard in 1925 ( 174th Infantry, Company D), and the United States Coast Guard in 1930, and who married Geraldine Drescher before 1937. He lived with his family in Amherst in in 1940 after getting out of the Coast Guard, and probably died in Kenmore, New York in 1983 at the age of 75 years old.
  7. Jean Lutz, born May 25, 1920, who married George Brown, and who passed away February 26, 2013.

Harriet Dotzour lost her son John Edward Lutz on October 23, 1918, during World War I while he was serving with in the United States Army as a Private, First Class with the 108th Infantry, 27th Division.

Harriet Dotzour Lutz lost her husband Edward Lutz in 1934, and became a widow.

Harriet Dotzour Lutz is recorded on the 1940 United States Federal Census for Amherst Town, Erie County, New York as a widow, age 63, living with her daughter Jean, age 18, her son Edwin Lutz, age 31, her daughter-in-law Geraldine Drescher Lutz, age 23, and a grandchild, age 3.

Harriet Dotzour Lutz passed away in 1956 and is buried in St. Michael's Cemetery in Williamsville, Town of Amherst, Erie County, New York, USA.
