Biography

"He is an American by birth having been born in New York." (Waggoner, 18a)

“His daughter married John Dougherty an Indian trader Doughertry’s affidavit made in 1836 stated that she was the daughter of a Winnebago woman named Kenoko and the grandaughter of a Winnebago chieftain known in Washington as the Winnebago General. He also stated that he was married in 1831 in Galena by a Catholic priest, and that by said wife, Mary, he had four children, viz. Sarah Bridget aged six years, James Philip aged four, Ann aged two years and Logan aged one year.” (Jipson, 236)

Residence

"He resides in Iowa County, Wisconsin, and has done so for 13 years." (Waggoner, 18a) Since this affidavit was filed in 24 September 1838, his residency there began in the year 1825.

In an 1838 census, John Dougherty's household was located at Fever River and consisted of 7 individuals. (History of Iowa County, 474)

Death

“[Her husband's] death occurred about the year 18__; but his widow lived to be about one hundred years old and died about the year 1889.” (Jipson, 236)
