According to Sir James Balfour Paul[1] and Douglas Richardson,[2] Isabel Stewart and James Douglas, earl of Douglas and Mar, had one child, a son who died in infancy. Alison Weir is in concurrence.[3] According to The Exchequer Rolls of Scotland they had no issue.[4] James Douglas also had three natural children by unknown mistresses: William Douglas of Drumlanrig; Archibald Douglas of Cavers; and Eleanor Douglas (who married William Fraser of Philorth).[1][2]. Isabel Stewart had one son by her (second) husband, John de Edmonstone.[2][3] Unless reliable sources can be found which refute this information and provide evidence of the existence of a daughter named Margaret, the subject of this profile needs to be detached from both of these parents.
