Archibald Douglas, 8th Earl of Angus was born circa 1555.He was the son of David Douglas, 7th Earl of Angus and Margaret Hamilton.
Archibald Douglas, 8th Earl of Angus also went by the nick-name of 'the Good Earl'. He succeeded to the title of 8th Earl of Angus [S., 1389] in June 1557.
On 22 August 1584 he was attainted, but was pardoned in 1585. He succeeded to the title of 5th Earl of Morton [S., 1458] on 29 January 1585/86.
He was succeeded in the Earldom of Angus by his cousin William, a descendant of the 5th Earl. A closer line of the Douglas family to the former Earls of Morton inherited the Earldom of Morton.
He married, firstly, Lady Mary Erskine, daughter of John Erskine, 18th/1st Earl of Mar and Annabel Murray, on 13 June 1573 at Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland.
He married, secondly, Lady Margaret Leslie, daughter of George Leslie, 4th Earl of Rothes and Margaret Crichton, on 25 December 1575.He and Lady Margaret Leslie were divorced on 12 July 1587.
He married by contract, thirdly, Jean Lyon, daughter of John Lyon, 8th Lord Glamis and Elizabeth Abernethy, on 29 July 1587.3 He died on 4 August 1588 at Smeaton, Scotland, probably from consumption but attributed to sorcery, without male issue.
Lady Margaret Douglas, it is said that she died young.
