Louis Archambaud Douglas a vécu

Louis Archambault Douglas est né et baptisé le 15 mars 1758 à Montréal (ND) au Canada, fils de François Prosper Sholto Douglas et de Charlotte La Corne; son parrain fut Louis La Corne, sa marraine Marie Anne Hebert (? Archambaut selon IGD, document peu lisible) épouse de Mr le Chevalier La Corne.[1] Il quitte le Canada avec ses parents et son frère après la Conquête de 1760.

Louis Archambauld, marié sous Louis Archambaud (parents défunts), m. à Lyon (St-Martin d'Ainay), le 20-02-1783, cm du 19-02-1783 greffe Baroud, avec Anne-Victoire-Gabrielle D'Espinay de Laye (Jean et Louise-Magdeleine Mogniat)[2][3]

Louis-Archambaud de DOUGLAS, fils de François-Prosper Sholto de Douglas, capitaine du régiment de Languedoc, et de Françoise-Charlotte de Lacorne, né à Montréal (Canada) le 15 mars 1758. Passé en France avec sa famille à la capitulation, il devint officier dans le régiment de Belzunce-Dragons. En 1788, à la mort de son oncle, il recueillit le comté de Montréal en Bugey et fut depuis appelé comte Douglas. En 1789, il vota, en qualité de comte de Montréal, à l'assemblée de la noblesse de Bugey. Député de l'Ain en 1815-1816. Mort à Montréal en Bugey, le 22 février 1842. Avait épousé 1° à Lyon le 14 février 1783, Anne-Marie-Victoire-Gabrielle d'Espinay de Laye, et 2° le 28 avril 1806, Marie-Anne Catala de la Serra. Une notice nécrologique publiée à l'occasion de sa mort en 1842 le dit chevalier de Saint-Louis.[4]

A gravestone at the Douglas Chapel in Montreal-La-Cluse reads:

Louis-Archambault, Earl DOUGLAS, Knight of the Legion of Honour and the Order of St Maurice and St Lazarus of Piedmont. Born in MONTREAL (CANADA) March 16 MDCCLVIII, MONTREAL Bugey death in February 24 MDCCCXLII. He was a member of the General Council of the Empire, a member of the Chamber of Deputies MDCCCXV. The straightness of his mind, the goodness of his heart, the loyalty of his character and grace of manner merited him the affection and respect of all who knew him. DE PROFUNDIS. The DELILIA (2) citizen OF CROZE denounced the lord MONTREAL, because it had set in LYON, and claimed from the kings of Scotland. April 2, 1793, they arrested DOUGLAS and is incarcerated at Bourg en Bresse. It was promised to the guillotine. But two days before the date set for the execution, farmers MONTREAL presented themselves delegation to the revolutionary court to demand his release. We brought him triumphantly MONTREAL.

In 1812, Napoleon appointed the Earl of DOUGLAS MEMBER of the General Council. Then it became: SAINT LOUIS Knight in 1816, Knight of the LYS in 1819 and a Knight of the Legion of Honor. He died in 1842.
