Biography

Robert Guthrie Douglas was born in 1820 to Andrew Douglass and Elizabeth Fletcher.

In 1844, Robert, along with his sister Margaret, were heirs to receive the bulk of their uncle Samuel Douglass' estate upon his death. The stipulation was they were to care for their grandmother Isabella Orr Douglass "she to be well maintained out of my property during her life time"[1]

After his marriage to Ann Jane Patterson, they had children; Andrew W Douglass, Mary Jane Douglass, John P Douglass, Elizabeth E Douglass, James Bowman Douglass and William Lincoln Douglass

He passed away at the age of 87 on 9 September 1908 in the home of his son William Lincoln Douglas 56 Charles St., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. [2]

1850 Robert lived with wife Ann, son Andrew W and daughter Mary Jane in Elizabeth, Allegheny, Pennsylvania. [3]

1860 Robert lived with wife Ann, son Andrew, sister Martha Patterson and father John Patterson lived in West Newton Borough, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, United States[4]

1870 Robert, Ann, sons Andrew, James B and William had moved to Beaver Falls, Beaver, Pennsylvania[5]

1880 Robert, Ann and William changed location again to Bellevue, Allegheny, Pennsylvania[6]

Research notes

From Genealogical and Personal History of Western Pennsylvania:[7] Robert married Jane Patterson.

According to his obituary, Robert married Ann Jane Patterson on April 15, 1845. He was a cooper, or cabinet maker. (copy of obituary attached to profile)
