William Hegar Douglass was born in 1738. He passed away in 1787 at the age of 48.

William married Mary Higginbotham on 30th October 1761 at All Saints Church, Loughborough, Leicestershire, England,

They had two children: James Alexander Douglass (b: 1762 - d: 1830), and Elizabeth, born in 1763 but died soon after. Her mother, Mary, passed away in the following year (1764).

William remarried: on 10 September 1765 he married Elizabeth Holbrooke in Loughborough, Leicestershire. They had two daughters: Elizabeth Mary, born in October 1766, and Diana Frances, born in 1768.
