  • Fact: Burial (1818) Gettysburg, Adams, Pennsylvania, United States of America

James Douglass' will, written September 26, 1817, names Elizabeth as his "beloved wife". He mentions his eldest children separately from the youngest three in several sections, a possible indication of the marriage to Elizabeth after the death of Elinor.

He mentions in particular the eldest daughters, (Mary, Martha and Jane and Anna) receiving one hundred dollar left them by their grandfather, William Orr. This seals the determination Elinor Orr died and James married a woman Elizabeth.

Special mention of and inheritance from James' brother Thomas is included and a review of Thomas's will indeed has special mention of "Nelly". (Thomas and his wife have no children of record)

Also included is a request that his neighbor, John Stewart be the guardian of his three youngest children; James, Elizabeth and Margaret.
