Biography

BIRTH:

A record of the birth of this Carrie Douglass in Greenwich, Hampden, Massachusetts, August 17, 1852 to parents, Hiram B. and Harriet Douglass.[1]

MIDDLE NAME:

In the record of the birth of this Carrie's daughter Clara, this Carrie's middle name is given as "Bell."[2]

PROFESSION:

See 1910 US Census source that says in 1910 she was a head-of-household farmer.

MARRIAGE:

A record of the marriage of this Carrie R. Douglass to Clarence P. Edson in Greenwich, Hampden, Massachusetts in 1869. This record gives Carrie's father as "Hiram Douglass."[3]

A 2nd record of the marriage of this Carrie B. Douglass to Clarence Edson. This record says they were married February 25, 1869 in Brattleboro, Windham, Massachusetts and says Carrie was 17yrs old at the time.[4]

NOTE: Two marriage sources...one says they were married in Greenwich, MA, the other says they were married in Brattleboro, MA.

CENSUS':

The 1860 US Census of Hardwick, Worcester, Massachusetts finds this Carrie at the age of 7yrs old and given as born in Massachusetts, living there with her parents, Hiram and Harriet and two younger siblings, Ida M., and Walter R.[5]

The 1865 Massachusetts state census of Hardwick, Worcester, Massachusetts finds this Carrie B. Douglass at the age of 12yrs old, living there with her parents Hiram B. and Harriet A. Douglass and two younger siblings; Ida and Walter.[6]

The 1870 US Census finds this Carrie B. at the age of 17yrs old, living with her husband, Clarence in a household headed by her mother-in-law, Sarah Edson. There is a 7-months old child; Fred C. who is given as a child of the mother Sarah; however, Sarah is 53yrs old. This may be Clarence and Carrie's eldest son, Fred.[7]

The 1880 US Census of Greenwich, Hampshire, Massachusetts finds this Carrie B. at the age of 27yrs old and given as born in Massachusetts. She is living there in Greenwich with her 31yr old farmer, husband, given as Clarence P. Edson and their five children; 10yr old Fred L., 8yr old Frank H., 7yr old Annie, 3yr old Hattie and 1yr old Lillie B.[8]

The 1900 US Census of Greenwich, Hampshire, Massachusetts finds this Carrie B. at the age of 47yrs old and given as a widow born in Massachusetts in August of 1852. She is found living there in Greenwich in the household of her 30yr old widower son, Fred Edson as a member of a large extended family living with Fred that also includes Fred's two young daughters; 7yr old Mary L. and 5yr old Mabel P. and fives of Carrie's other children, (siblings of Fred), 17yr old Clara M., 14yr old Charles N., 10yr old Roy, 8yr old Lester and 6yr old Carrie P.[9]

The 1910 US Census of Greenwich, Hampshire, Massachusetts finds this Carrie B. Edson at the age of 57yrs old and given as widow, head-of-household, famer born in Massachusetts. She is heading a household in Greenwich that also contains her 17yr old son, Lester, her 16yr old daughter, Carrie P. and three grandchildren; 15yr old Mabel, 17yr old Mary L. and 14yr old Clarence D.[10]

DEATH:

A death certificate for this Carrie "Belle" Edson who died December 31, 1918 in Greenwich, Hampshire, Massachusetts. She died a widow. This record gives her spouse as Clarence P. Edson; her dob as August 17, 1852 and her parents as Hiram Douglass and Harriet A. Pierce. The informant was her son, Fred Edson.[11]

A brief newspaper article covering this Carrie Edson's funeral. She left 7-sons and 4-daughters. She was buried in Greenwich cemetery.[12]

GREENWICH, MA

The funeral of Miss Carrie Edson was held at her home Friday. She leaves seven sons and four daughters who were all able to be present at the services. Rev. Mr. Webber of North Dana officiated. Burial was in Greenwich Cemetery.
