My father along with his twin sister were adopted at birth. It has only been 2 years since we found out whom his biological mother was (Oppenheim). Thinking I may have found the biological father was but would like to confirm to be sure.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Hi

The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting suggested matches. Once you have done this the data from your file will be filled in on the add profile screen so that you can review and make adjustments before saving.

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

You are now a Family Member -- your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together!

If you are new to genealogy -- no problem! Every genealogist is a beginner at some point and WikiTree is a collaborative site for people of all experience levels! Start with the New Member How-To pages — they are really useful as you add profiles and learn your way around. Take your time, keep track of your sources, and ask questions. And take a look at these tips on recording your family history.

I see that you mentioned adoption/non-biological parents. Adoptees: How to Set Up Your Profile is a WikiTree help page specifically designed for new members who indicate they are adoptees. It is also helpful for non-adopted members who have adoptees in their family tree. The page includes links to more resources, like our Adoption Angels Project, basic search techniques, information on DNA, etc. You may find this help page on Adoptions and Multiple Parents also helpful.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To get the best results, begin adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, use the reply link below to let me know. I am happy to help! If I can't answer, I will help you find someone who can.
