Biography
Dr. Roswell Dow, PhD, was a school teacher and founder of Dow Academy in 1847 with over 64 students enrolled.. This was to be known as a Prepatory School for classical training. The Dow family certainly brought a touch of New England to this prairie town in Illinois.

DeKalb County History: Public career: 1850 Dr. Roswell Dow was hired as a Surveyor to plot and make maps of all existing roads in DeKalb county. 1855-58: Dr. Roswell Dow elected County Treasurer. 1862: Roswell Dow elected to Board of Supervisors, 1870: Roswell Dow elected officer DeKalb Agricultural Association as the Treasurer.
