Joseph Dow was born on June 11, 1741 in Massachusetts Bay Colony, son of James Dow (1693–1773) and Mary Nichols (1702–1790).

His siblings were:

  1. Lydia Dow (1733–1780)
  2. James Dow (~1736–>1760)
  3. Isaiah Dow (1738–~1800)

Joseph married Elizabeth Cummings (born on March 14, 1749 in Oxford, Oxford, Worcester, Massachusetts Bay, British Colonial America). Their known children were:
