Biography

Hiram G. Dowd was the second child of Jasper E. Dowd and Lura E. Terbush ^[1]. According to the 1905 New York State census he was 21 years of age, thus calculating his birth in 1884 ^[2], however the date of the census is not given, and he could have been born in 1883. His birth location probably was in or near Wolcott, Wayne County, New York.

Hiram G. Dowd applied 14 Sep 1909 to marry Alice F. Tivnan, age 25, born in Oswego, daughter of Rose (Dunn) and Pat'k Tivnan, who was described as 'saleslady' ^[3]. They married 15 Sep 1909 at Syracuse, New York, ^[4]; note that Hiram's given name was garbled on the official record of marriage, appearing incorrectly as 'Herman'.

In the 1910 U.S. census this couple were enumerated in Huron, Wayne County, New York. The occupation of Hiram was 'farmer, home farm'. Data contained in this census, dated 15 Apr 1910, at which time he was age 27, more closely illustrate that his birth must have occurred in 1883.
