Biography

Emma Eliza Dowdall was born on 25th June 1851 in Hunter's Hill, New South Wales (Australia). She was the younger daughter of Michael Dowdall and Mary Hatton. [1] She was christened in All Saints Church of England (Anglican Church), North Parramatta.

As Emma Williams and aged seventeen years, Emma married Scottish emigrant, William Irvine, on 21st November 1868 in Great Western, Victoria (Australia). [2] William died in 1885.

Emma married William Smith in 1888 in Victoria (Australia). [3]

Emma is an enigma to family members researching her line. Questions yet answered include: Why did she marry at 17 in Victoria when her family remained in Sydney? Why did she marry as Emma Williams?
