Biography

Flora Mae was born at Fox River on Feb 09, 1909, the daughter of Clarence (“Burton”) Dowe and Clara Fife.[1]

Flora appears on her first census with her family at Port Greville (Fox River), Cumberland County, NS, 1911 Census of Canada. [2]

Flora Mae married Albert Willigar on Dec 21, 1932 at 62 Pleasant Street in Amherst, Nova Scotia.[3]

(from the Halifax Chronicle Herald, Monday, May 28, 1979, pg. #20; Reel #6103) OBITUARY: Mrs. Mae Canning, 70, of Parrsboro, died Friday in Parrsboro Hospital. Born in Wood's Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Burton and Clara (Fife) Dowe. Surviving are five sisters, Vina (Mrs. Joseph Ehler), Thorburn; Belle (Mrs. Wallace Pettigrew), Economy; Sophie (Mrs. Peter Pugsley), New Canaan; Rose (Mrs. Frank Arsenault), Halifax; ***Lillian (Mrs. George Duffy), Parrsboro***; four brothers, Roland, Halifax; Reginald, Fox River; Corbett and Percy, both of Parrsboro; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Albert Willigar, and her second husband, Joseph Canning. The body is in Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral will be today at 2 p.m. In St. George's Anglican Church, Rev. Whitley Trueman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
