Caroline was born in Marmora, Canada West, in about 1864, the second child of Rev. John Armnstrong Dowler and Mary Williams. Being daughter of a pastor, Caroline had a number of homes during her youth. In 1871, she appears on the first census with her family in Crosby, Ontario. In 1881, the family was listed in Brock, Ontario then in 1891 in Elmsley South
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Caroline by comparing test results with other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA.
