MISSED THE TRAIN.
STRUCK RUNNING BOARD--INNISFAIL, March 21. Charles Carpenter, attempting to board a train at Mourilyan this after noon, slipped and fell and, it is thought, was struck by the running board. He sustained two lacerated wounds across the right knee and injuries to the left shin. The ambulance went out from Innisfail, rendered first aid and conveyed the sufferer to hospital.

OBITUARY.
MRS MARY ALLEN ATKINSON, A MEMBER OF A WELL KNOWN AND HIGHLY RESPECTED INNISFAIL FAMILY PASSED AWAY AT THE BABINDA HOSPITAL YESTERDAY MORNING. MRS ATKINSON, before her marriage to Mr. FREDERICK ATKINSON, a farmer of BARTLE FRERE, was MISS DOWNING, eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. JAMES ROBERT DOWNING, early day residents of the district. AGED 36, MRS. ATKINSON was married some 12 years ago. In addition to her HUSBAND, she is survived by two children, AGNES, aged nine, and and GEORGE, aged six.

OBITUARY.
JOHN ROBERT DOWNING, who died at INNISFAIL on Saturday morning, was born in the district 43 years ago, his parents being engaged in CANE GROWING in the early days of the district.
DECEASED, WHO WAS FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF HIS FATHER, and had property at DARADGEE, contracted tetanus, the result of standing on a nail that penetrated his foot. He entered hospital last week, but medical skill could not overcome the grip of the dread disease, and he gradually sank, to pass away at early morning.
DECEASED WAS A SON OF THE LATE MR. AND MRS. JAMES ROBERT DOWNING, EARLY PIONEERS, WHO ESTABLISHED PROPERTIES IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE SHIRE. His early education was received at the Sacred Heart Convent, and later he attended Nudgee. On completing his education, he returned to Innisfail to become associated with his father on the land. Public matters interested deceased, and he was closely connected with Catholic Church affairs.
AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH, HE WAS PRESIDENT OF THE ST. VINCENT DE PAUL. Society AND HOLY NAME SOCIETY. AT ONE TIME Mr. DOWNING WAS A MEMBER of the COMMITTEE of the INNISFAIL TURF CLUB, and he also HELD OFFICE ON THE EXECUTIVE OF THE N.D.R.A. He was a FOUNDATION MEMBER and a member of the INNISFAIL GOLF CLUB, and he also acted as a member. of the GOONDI MILL SUPPLIERS' COMMITTEE.
DECEASED IS SURVIVED BY A WIFE and SIX CHILDREN, to whom deepest sympathy is extended. Other members of the family reside in the district.
