William Henry Doyle was born to Captain Edward Doyle and his wife, Annabella Amelia Yonge, about 1823 in Nassau, Bahamas.
"Married, on the 7th December (1854), by the Rev. William Maclure, the Hon. WH Doyle, Esq., Barrister-At-Law, to Mary Seavor, daughter of the late Samuel Johnson, Esq."
Called to the Bar at the Middle Temple. London. In 1858 was appointed Assistant Justice of the General Court of the Bahamas. In 1865 he was promoted to the Chief Justiceship. Also Judge of the Vice Admiralty Court.
President of the Legislative Council, Bahama Islands in 1867.
First Bahamian knighted by the British Monarch. Knighted by the Queen at Windsor Castle 12 December 1873.
Chief Justice of Gibraltar (1877 to 1879) where a portrait of him hangs in the Supreme Court (appointed 14 May 1877, Downing Street, London). Before accepting this position, he was Chief Justice of the Leeward Islands.
Sir William Henry Doyle, Knight, late Chief Justice of Gibralter, died in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire at 56 years of age. He was buried there 30 April 1879.
